Why We’re Taking Part in Movember

It’s that time of year. Time to see the furry caterpillar appear above every Man’s top lip. For most, this isn’t a time to boast but rather be the butt of every joke due to tragic facial hair.

Most don’t do it for the look, we do it for the cause. Movember stands for tackling prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

The time is upon us, shave off the rest of your facial hair and let the Mo take over.

How To Get Involved

There’s 3 great ways to get stuck in this Movember, this isn’t just for Gents..
We are encouraging everyone to up their active minutes this November – the clocks have just changed back, giving us an extra shot at daylight in the morning and more darkness in the evening. This isn’t a chance to give up on exercise. We may need to change our schedule to achieve those active minutes but let’s all try to MOVE this Movember!

GROW – whatever you grow, will save a bro

MOVE – the goal is 60km in the month of November, to mark the fact that 60 men complete suicide per hour

HOST – rally a crew and do something fun!

Why You Should Join In

Whether it’s sacrificing your appearance for a calendar month, being more active in honour of the cause or rallying a crew and raising awareness in another form… The message needs to be clear and in our opinion it needs to hit home. Globally, every minute a man dies by suicide. In the United Kingdom, 75% of suicides are men.

Movember encourages 5 tips – talk, ask, listen, encourage action, check in.

It’s easy to be the guy who makes jokes about another friend’s awful facial hair but remember your Mo can inspire donations, conversations and real change.

Although as a service we don’t provide help with cancer risk or mental health, we’re always keen to raise awareness and signpost through to relevant services. Did you know exercise is now being prescribed to help cases of Depression?
