Training Opportunities for 2019

One You East Sussex, the county’s new integrated healthy lifestyle service, will be offering a range of training for healthcare professionals, service managers and frontline staff. Below are details of the courses we have coming up; we can also arrange a bespoke programme for your organisation, just let us know if this is of interest and we’ll get back to you!

Training Courses

Course 1

NHS Health Checks Training for GP Practice Staff

A one-day core training course aimed at Practice staff new to NHS Health Checks delivery or those who would benefit from a detailed overview of the aims and practical training on delivery. The course does not cover point of care testing as it is assumed prospective delivery staff will already be familiar with this.

Course 2

NHS Health Checks Refresher Training

A three-hour workshop aimed at staff from any setting who have already been delivering NHS Health Checks and need to brush up their skills; or those recently trained who need a bit more help to get going.

Stop Smoking Advisor Training

A two-day certified training course for any frontline staff who want to provide evidence based stop smoking programmes to their clients. Attendance across both days is compulsory.

Course 4

Stop Smoking Advisor Refresher

This half day course covers a local progress report, refresher on policies, particularly the 4 and 12 week quit definition, and a refresher of standard treatment protocol, medication and electronic cigarettes. We will also go over success sharing and recap on tackling tricky patients.

Update Training for GP

This 1 hour session which covers a local update on progress, local policy refresher, refresher on the STP, recap on stop smoking medication and electronic cigarettes, and success sharing.

Course 7

How to incorporate dementia into NHS Health Checks 

 

The dementia element to the NHS Health Check programme enables healthcare professionals to talk to their patients about how they can reduce their dementia risk, such as by maintaining their social life, keeping mentally and physically active and stopping smoking.

This free half day training course has been developed to support NHS Health Check practitioners to support them with the dementia component of the check.

Course 8

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is a two day course that teaches how to identify, understand and help a person who may be developing a mental health problem. You will learn how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health. This course is certified.

Course 9

OPEN MECC (Make Every Contact Count)

This training is an approach to healthcare that ensures you will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to ‘make every contact count’ when opportunities arise with patients. You will be well equipped to have brief conversations about their health and wellbeing and on how they might make positive improvements. Combined with practical face to face skills training you will receive on this course you will be well equipped to engage patients in difficult conversation.

Communicating Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Masterclasses

Some patients report not fully understanding their CVD risk or how to reduce their risk following their NHS Health Check. Local practitioners have also identified communicating CVD risk as an area they would like more training, information and support on. This free half day training session has been developed to support NHS Health Check practitioners to improve their CVD risk communication skills and maximise patient outcomes following their check.
