World Health Day, How’s Your Well-Being?

World Health Day 2021

7th April, World Health Day – brings an important reminder of how important our Health is.

How Is Health Defined?

World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Now for some, that might make perfect sense – whilst for others, that can seem vague. Join us as we break it down further for World Health Day!

Social Well-Being

This past year has been incredibly challenging – for us, for our health and the health of our nearest and dearest.

WHO definition of health mentions a state of complete social well-being, we’re sure that everyone has been lacking in certain situations because of isolation and covid-19. Yet, the year ahead brings a new found sense of hope. Hope that we will be able to go about our daily lives as normal, including seeing family and friends, a crucial part in our social well-being.

Mental Well-Being

Mental well-being just like social, will likely have been tested several times over the last year. The same positivity when looking at our social well-being moving forward, also resonates when we discuss mental well-being.

It’s normal for us to feel a wide range of emotions, however it starts to become a problem if we feel negative ones for a long period of time. We recommend talking to our friends at Health in Mind if you’ve found this to be the case.

Health in Mind is a free NHS service for anyone in East Sussex experience symptoms such as stress, anxiety and depression.

Physical Well-Being

Physical changes we can make to our health include increasing our exercise levels, reducing our alcohol consumption, improving our nutrition, ensuring our weight stays within recommended guidelines, and stopping smoking. This is where we come in!

As the County’s FREE healthy lifestyle provider, we can help you reach a better level of physical well-being. Our service is currently fully remote and so can be accessed from the comfort of your living room.

Not just that but we know by changing elements of our physical health it can have positive effects across our social and mental well-being too.

Mentally, we feel better when we are exercising regularly. Likewise, this is also the case for eating a healthy diet, being smoke free and being a healthy weight. Many alcoholic drinks are a depressant so it’s best to limit our alcohol consumption too.

The last year has meant many people have felt lonely. Our sessions are all carried out via video calls or telephone calls – there’s a social aspect there that could have been lacking for some.

So why wait? Fill our a short referral today and let’s get you feeling happier and healthier this World Health Day.
