We’re heading to the Olympics!

East Sussex to Tokyo? Lets go!!!

Right guys, we’ve got 31 days to get to Japan – more specifically, Tokyo. At the time of writing this, it’s uncertain whether the Olympics is going ahead but we’re not letting that stop us from getting moving.

We’ve got 31 days to cover 9,600km (5,965 miles) as a collective – the distance from East Sussex to Tokyo (where the Olympics is being held) and here’s how we’re going to do it.

Have you heard of Strava?

Strava is a free (although paid option is available) GPS based app that tracks your distance accurately. The app is great for monitoring all exercise types, especially walking, running, cycling and swimming.

Our challenge is going to focus on running. (as part of the settings each exercise MUST be logged as a run – don’t worry you can walk and it will count, but make sure to set it as a run anyway. This can be done afterwards if you forget and it’ll still count)

Join us and contribute whatever you can, from half a mile walk to a marathon – we’d love you to play a part. The trick is we’re going to keep consistently moving over 31 days.

You’ll need a smart phone or watch to join in – download the app from either the Play Store or the Apple Store, join our challenge – https://www.strava.com/clubs/OYES2Olympics set every activity to run, and get underway. Remember whether it’s 10 steps or more, every little helps.

Each week we’re going to highlight how far we’ve travelled across the globe and every person in our Strava group will be entered into a draw for a £50 gift voucher from Sports Direct as long as they complete 3 activities in the month of July.

Privacy settings

Strava is a GPS based app, as such it shows your location of your runs or walks. We recommend changing your settings with a radius around your home address to ensure it won’t be shown. You can do so by going to Settings > Privacy Controls > Privacy Zones. Input your post code and choose your radius up to 1600 metres. We’ve used Eastbourne as an example with a 200 metre radius (you can add multiple if you wish). Don’t worry it will still count the full length of your run or walk but just won’t show it on the app!

You can also change your privacy settings to hide your personal information. Your profile page and activities can be set to followers only rather than the public.

The unknowns of vaping

Using a vape can help you when you’re quitting smoking, and vaping is thought to be up to 95% healthier than smoking cigarettes. But there’s so much we don’t know about vaping. Here’s what that means.
