What is the Covid Stone?

What is the covid stone?

In a year that none of us could have predicted, weight can be a touchy subject. The term Covid stone has been born due to this year.

For those that don’t know, Covid stone refers to the weight gain that people may have experienced due to Covid protocol and lockdowns. Many of us have been forced to spend more time at home – this obviously has its benefits. It also has a few difficulties. Let’s look at a few.

Firstly, it can be hard to switch off as work and our personal lives have well and truly collided.

Secondly, we’re spending more time sitting closer to the fridge or goodie cupboard – it can be really hard to stop snacking. For our normal working lives, we’ve usually got more barriers in place to make snacking harder e.g. working in the office, needing to go and get lunch from a shop or further from the kitchen.

Thirdly, this means that many of us are sitting down for longer than normal. The stress and confusion of this year can have a real direct effect on our eating habits, comfort eating almost certainly will have been common for most people.

How can we shift the Covid Stone?

We know it is possible to lose the weight that may have been gained in lockdown. But don’t just take our word for it. From April 2019 to March 2020, we helped 872 people lose weight through our Adult Weight Management pathway and our MAN v FAT football leagues.

Of those 872 people, 518 people lost 3% of their starting weight.

299 people lost 5% of their starting weight!

Our total weightloss achieved by clients last year was 2,857 kg.
