Grenade Carb Killa Bars – Our Verdict

Grenade Carb Killa worth the hype?

Throughout January, our Adult Weight Management Practitioners and Health Coaches will share healthy snack alternatives for when the temptation to back-track is strong! This week Heather breaks down the nutritional value in Grenade Carb Killa bars.

If you have been in any supermarket or gym recently you have probably come across Grenade Carb Killa bars.  They are currently being placed with other snacks in front of the tills in supermarkets and in gym vending machines.  We tried the cookies and cream version.

These are targeted at the gym crowd as a pre or post workout snack but at approx. £2.50 a bar they aren’t cheap.

What was our verdict on the Bars?

Packaging and Appearance

The branding is strong, and on the packaging it includes endorsement from ‘Informed Sport’ which is a validation that the product has been ‘banned substance tested.’  We felt the name also suggested that the product would somehow reduce the carbs you ate.  The chocolate bar itself looked appetising and much like any other chocolate bar.

The initial impression was that this tasted quite nice, it does have quite a sweet taste and there was a definite aftertaste probably from the sweetener.  We didn’t feel we could easily eat a whole bar.

Nutritional Information

Per bar

  • 218kcal
  • 20g protein
  • 1.9g sugar
  • 16.9g sweetener

These are high in protein and low in carbohydrate and sugar, but at 218kcal a bar they still relatively high in kcals.

Would we recommend the bars to our clients?

We probably wouldn’t recommend that people include these regularly as part of their diet mainly due to the expense and kcal value. However if someone fancied them occasionally pre or post workout, or as a treat, there would be no reason to not enjoy!
